CLASS UNIFORM

Wearing the correct dance wear and foot wear is an important part of dance class. Not only
does it promote discipline and high standards within the class, but it is also essential for
correct dance development. Correct clothing allows the teacher to see the students body
lines properly allowing them to make appropriate corrections as well as allowing the dancer
to move freely and comfortably. Proper dance footwear is also essential to allow dancers to
learn moves correctly (especially for tap). All uniform is required for examinations and also
gives the dancers something to wear for displays and demos throughout the year.
Hair for class should always be tied back off the face, preferably in a bun for ballet, or held
back with a head band if the child has short hair. No jewellery should ever be worn in class.

CURRENT UNIFORM LIST

Grade 1 & 2 Ballet
Pink sleeveless leotard, pink ballet tights, pink leather ballet shoes, pink cross-over
cardigan. Pink wrap skirt is optional.

Grade 3 & 4 Ballet
Black leotard, pink ballet tights, pink leather ballet shoes. Black wrap skirt is optional.
Under 11’s wear pink as in Grade 1 & 2.

Graded Modern/Jazz & Tap
Black leotard, black lycra footless tights, black tap shoes and black jazz shoes. Those
who attend ballet may wear ballet shoes, but jazz shoes will be needed for exams.

Boys
White fitted T-shirt or boys leotard, black dance shorts, white or black ballet socks.
Black ballet shoes, jazz shoes or tap shoes (dependant on class attended).

Musical Theatre/Glee Club
Mayo School of Dance tracksuit, or suitable comfortable clothing. Runners, plimpsoles
or jazz shoes should be worn on the feet. A folder for song sheets will be needed also.

WINTER MONTHS - Long sleeved tops and wool tights or leggings may be worn under
uniform during winter months. Clothing should still be fitted to the body.

SCHOOL GEAR - Mayo School of Dance tracksuits and T-shirts are available to order.
These are great for wearing to and from class, during warm up and cool down in class,
and to competitions and performances.

ORDERING - All uniform can be ordered in class. Parents can buy items themselves,
but are advised to order through the school to insure they are getting the right items.
